The thickness of Gold plating is measured in microns. Each micron is 1/39,000,000th of an inch.
Gold Plating can be done on Mild Steel, Stainless Steel, Brass, Zinc-based alloys, Silver and Gold too, especially on low-carat gold items. Even wooden items can be Gold-plated.
