The protrusion of a loop or part of the intestine through an abnormal hole in the abdominal wall, sometimes a loop of bowel protrudes into the scrotum. It is caused by weakness or absence of muscles, ligaments and other connecting tissue that hold organs in their place. A most rare type is the protrusion of the stomach and other parts of the upper abdomen into the lungs through a hole in the diaphragm muscle which separates the chest cavity from the abdominal cavity. |
